On the occasion of receiving the Wachter Award 2014 for exceptional scientific achievements for his work on cancer research, Prof. Alexander Levitzki from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem visited the University of Innsbruck. Prof. Levitzki has been a specialist in the field of signal transduction with a focus on cancer for over 45 years and his research enabled the development of an entirely new class of anticancer drugs. The awardee, his wife Daphne Atlas and members of Ilse & Helmut Wachter Stiftung were welcomed by Rektor Tilmann Märk and a small delegation at the University of Innsbruck, where they also discussed possible future collaborations. On November 29 the Wachter Award 2014 was presented to Prof. Levitzki in the Aula of the university, where afterwards he held a lecture on the topic “Are we winning the war on cancer?”.
The first “International Day” took place at the location of the International Services of the University of Innsbruck in the Old Town, Herzog-Friedrich-Str. 3 (“Claudiana”) on November 4, 2014. It was conceptualized as an “Open House Day,” to promote all international services by the university on both, a university as well as on a non-university level. AIANI participated in this International Day and together with the other offices produced a video, offered information and a kosher buffet. Information material about AIANI, Israel and the possibilities of collaboration, were provided, together with Israeli snacks and sweets to a very large group of interested visitors during the day. This was also the first major opportunity for AIANI to present itself and its activities to a broader Innsbruck public and to the University of Innsbruck community. |
