In March 2014, the Austrian branch office of the international network “Ethucation” organized a Bioethics excursion to Israel. Students from the University of Innsbruck and the Medical University Innsbruck (MUI) participated. “Ethucation’s” aim is the worldwide entrenchment of bioethics at universities and institutions of higher education and it traces back to an initiative of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics at the University of Haifa. | AIANI supported this collaborative project of the MUI and the University of Innsbruck logistically. Six students of the University of Innsbruck took part in this excursion. During their two-week stay in Israel they dealt with a multitude of bioethical questions and acquainted themselves with the core topics of the current bioethical debate. Lectures, short-term seminars together with Israeli colleagues and getting to know the Israeli culture were part of the schedule. Prerequisites for attending the excursion had been the participation in a preliminary seminar, the delivering of a seminar lecture and the writing of an essay as well as a diary. In cooperation with the International Relations Office, financial support was granted to five participants (to the same extent of the support the MUI students received from the MUI). |
